Two-line atomic fluorescence flame thermometry using diode lasers

This paper reports on the first application of diode laser based LIF for pointwise temperature measurements in flames. The technique is based on two-line atomic fluorescence (TLAF) thermometry of indium atoms seeded at trace levels into the flame. Two novel extended cavity diode laser systems (ECDLs) were developed, providing tunable single-mode radiation around 410 and 451 nm, respectively, to...

High-repetition-rate combustion thermometry with two-line atomic fluorescence excited by diode lasers.

We report on kilohertz-repetition-rate flame temperature measurements performed using blue diode lasers. Two-line atomic fluorescence was performed by using diode lasers emitting at around 410 and 451 nm to probe seeded atomic indium. At a repetition rate of 3.5 kHz our technique offers a precision of 1.5% at 2000 K in laminar methane/air flames. The spatial resolution is better than 150 microm...

Simultaneous multiple species detection in a flame using laser-induced fluorescence.

An approach for simultaneous detection of NO, OH and O in flames using laser-induced fluorescence is presented. The technique is based on spectral coincidences using a Nd:YAG-based laser system producing a frequency-doubled and frequency-mixed laser beam at 287 and 226 nm, respectively. The possibility of making spatially resolved measurements using a diode-array detector was also investigated....

Single-pulse laser-induced OH fluorescence in an atmospheric flame, spatially resolved with a diode array detector.

Laser-induced fluorescence measurements of OH have been performed in an atmospheric stoichiometric CH(4)/air flame and in a highly sooting propane flame. The measurements were realized with a single 6-nsec pulse from a frequency-doubled dye laser pumped by a Nd:YAG laser and with a spatial resolution of ~25 microm. This was achieved by imaging through a suitably chosen filter set a section of t...

Two-Line Atomic Fluorescence for Thermometry in Reactive Flows

Advances in the field of laser-based combustion diagnostics over the past decades have allowed for detailed characterisation, modelling and increased understanding of the complex combustion process. However; many combustion phenomena are still unexplained and there is a continued need for development and application of diagnostic tools to further the understanding of the combustion process. One...
